What to Wear To a Roller Skating Party (And Not To Wear)

Ever since I began roller-skating, I’ve always wanted to attend one of the roller skating parties I saw. Sadly, most of them were invite-only.

Long story short, my friends and I decided to attend a skating party we received an invite for.

To tell you guys the truth, it was really a hard task picking out a nice outfit mainly because I had never attended a roller skating party before and I literally had no idea what to wear to the party.

(Sips hot cocoa) while searching through my never ending-wardrobe of clothes, I still couldn’t decide on anything. So here’s what I did;

I took a long ride in the top spot where roller skaters usually hang out in my area. While skating, I did a mini-interview with a few of them with the following questions

  • What will you wear to a roller skating party if I invited you to one?
  • Have you ever been to a roller skating party? What did you wear?
  • Were you comfortable in the outfit you picked out?
  • What was the theme of the party?

Although a few of them were shy and hesitated a bit when I approached them, the answers I received gave me an idea of the outfits I could pick out for the party.

The first you want to know about going to a roller skating party is that you definitely want to have your roller skates on. Wearing a shoe or heels to a roller skein party is absurd and shouldn’t be spotted on you.

It’s a boring choice to wear shoes and heels. I mean it’s a ROLLER SKATING PARTY! Not the usual parties you attend. The name says it all.

The outfit you eventually decide to go for portrays you on different levels. As much as it’s a roller skating party and you’re there to have fun, you want to make sure that you’re looking presentable and show off how fashionable you can be.

Let’s not forget to be danger cautious while choosing your outfits. In other words, you’re looking your best while protecting yourself from possible injuries you may acquire while skating.

In this blog post, I’ll be giving you an insight into what you can and cannot wear to a roller skating party.

1, 2, 3…

FIGHT!

What is a skating party?

The sound of parties sure does sound like fun to me. Although, this question comes up most of the time, I’m sure a handful of you guys already know what a skating party is.

However, for clarity’s sake, I’ll leave a firsthand insight into what it is.

For me, a skating party is a combination of skating, meeting new people and having lots of fun.  You don’t just see the regular skaters from your neighborhood. You get to meet talented skaters of all skill levels. You could also meet skating aspirers (Non-skaters).

Night or afternoon of all-around fun activities which could include things that are not skate involved such as bowling, karaoke, barbecuing, trampoline, etc to mention but a few.

At the skating party, I got to make new friends and learn a thing or two I didn’t know about skating. We shared our initial experiences and encouraged the beginners not to give up (while making fun of their horrible first tries of course). I had so much fun I almost cried.

I’m beginning to wonder had never attended any skating party in the first place. The music, the vibes, the jam is just everything. Based on the party I attended, it was organized in a way that nobody felt left out unless you just outrightly wanted to.

If your child wants to attend a skating party, ensure that it is within the required age unless hosted by the same age bracket.

Skating parties are extremely fun and I can’t wait to attend one soon.

What do you wear to roller-skating party?

This right here is the main deal, as a lot of people tend to be confused when picking out their outfits for a skating party.

Moving forward, the first thing you want to keep an eye out for is if the party is a themed party.

You can’t wear just anything to an ‘80s themed roller skating party (this isn’t mandatory but you’ll definitely want to fit in and not feel left out)

Depending on what theme the organizers chose, you should dress accordingly, it helps build your confidence and makes you have so much fun and not look boring.

A friend of mine once attended a Marvel-themed skating party and dress as wonder woman. I asked her if there was an Ironman character (I was really curious to know how they’d pull off such a complicated outfit) to my surprise she told me there were a lot of Ironman characters and they looked pretty awesome.

I still wonder how they did it.

Anyways, a lot of you aren’t fans of themed parties like me. I hate wearing the same outfit with someone t an event. Because why will you steal my shine!

If you got an invite to a normal skating party, here’s a list of ideas you can choose from for the perfect skating outfit.

For the gentlemen and guys

  1. Lightweight shirts (you’ll definitely sweat a lot if you’re having so much fun)
  2. Roller skates of course
  3. Polo
  4. Any preferred design of long socks
  5. Combat shorts
  6. A not s fitted jeans

For the women

  1. A cute cotton dress
  2. Short denim skirts
  3. Polo
  4. Tank tops
  5. Pretty hair bands
  6. Vintage t-shirts
  7. Combat shorts as well
  8. Denim/mom jeans
  9. Cheerleader skirts

I must say, the girls sure do have a lot of options to choose from. If you’re a guy you can drop our suggestions once this blog post is over.

What do you wear to a 80s theme roller skate party?

It’s almost easy to pull this one off. No matter how crazy you look, it will definitely be appreciated as far as you stick to the theme.

You’re free to go on your hunt for inspiration on different websites however I’ll drop a few suggestions based on what I know about an 80’s theme roller skate party.

  1. Denim jeans, shirts, or shorts
  2. Beret
  3. A scarf ( mostly tied on the neck)
  4. Long multi-colored socks
  5. Flay skirts
  6. Mini skirts
  7. Leggings
  8. Tank tops
  9. Bright colored wigs
  10. Fela trousers
  11. Loose shirts and tops
  12. 80’s theme jewelry

If you notice, I made sure to include outfits for both females and males in the list above. You can also go further to look more like the 80s by applying makeup that suits that era.

As much as the outfits sometimes look overwhelming when you wear them out for the first time, you’ll eventually feel more comfortable once you get to the venue and begin having fun and meeting new friends.

What do you wear to a 70s theme roller skate party?

I know I said I wasn’t a fan of themed parties, but I’ll definitely want to give the 70’s theme a try. It takes you back to a completely different era where you most certainly didn’t exist in.

You get to experience what it feels like to actually attend a party in the 70s even if it involves skating.

Sounds worth trying, doesn’t it?

For the ladies, don’t forget to jump on your afro wigs!

In the 70s a lot of people kept afro hairs. In fact, afro hairs are the first things my mind wanders off to when I hear of the 70s themed anything.  Let’s not forget the bright colored lipstick and shiny eye shadows.

There’s just a lot to experiment with for a 70s theme roller skate party.  The disco costume is one thing that definitely was in vogue during the 70s. it may also be an ideal pick if you like the fitting on your body.

Because the 80s and the 70s are only one century away from each other, a few things from the 70s were still in vogue in the 80s. The fela trousers are something you should consider wearing to your 70’s themed roller skating party. It goes well with vintage or culture shirts (super dope fit if you asked me)

Above all, let’s not forget to attend the roller skate party with our roller skates. You can also go the extra mile of getting a roller skate in time for the party. Something that matches the outfit you may have planned out for the party.

It would really feel weird if I attended a roller skate party without my skating boots. How will I show the world my newly acquired skill?

What should you not wear to a roller skating party?

As much as I’ll encourage everyone to make sure they feel comfortable in whatever outfit they have on, there are still some clothes and outfits that are not suitable for a roller skate party.

Here’s an instance I like to use. At the roller skate party I attended, a disaster happened to one of the guests. She wore really tight jeans (it did give her shape a great look)

These jeans did not give her enough flexibility on her knees and she crashed into the wall. Thankfully she had on her protective gear and didn’t really injure herself. But it was simply embarrassing. I wouldn’t like such a disaster to happen to any of you, so here’s what you should avoid wearing to a roller skate party.

  1. Do not wear really long pants( you’ll fall)
  2. It’s not advisable to skate in party wear unless you have such skills
  3. Dinner gowns
  4. Do not wear too loose clothes
  5. Extremely tight-fitted pants.
  6. Loose jewelry

While picking your outfit, ensure that you don’t have any of the above listed in mind to wear to your roller skate party. It’ll be a disaster

Final words

Just because it’s a roller skate party doesn’t mean you won’t give it your best to look as fashionable as possible.

I believe that whatever you put on while skating, regardless of whether it is a roller skating party or not has a way of improving your skating skills and boosting your confidence.

Your outfit portrays your lifestyle in ways you cannot begin to imagine.

So, you better do yourself the favor of looking your best (you never know who you might run into at the party)

What did you wear to your roller skating party?

Until next time my friends!
