Sure-Grip Stardust Roller Skate Review: Is It Better Than Impala Holographic

Hi guys, I feel excited to write another review since the last one. I got tons of messages to leave a review on the Sure-Grip stardust roller skates.

Because of this, I had to purchase one and a few other Sure-grip rollers to give the perfect review. As you know, I’ve always been in love with the impala roller skates and I’ll try as much as possible not to leave a biased review.

Moving forward, I’ll like to say that the Sure-grips are definitely beautiful. They caught my attention the very first time I saw them. I don’t know about anybody else, but they come close to the impala holographic because of the shiny look it gives off.  This is by far my own observation and you may likely not agree with me and that’s totally fine (please don’t come for me)

Just like the impala roller skates, the sure-grip stardust is also comfortable- to an extent. Not as comfortable as impala though.

To answer the question is the impala holographic better than the Sure-grip star dust roller skates? My answer is NO, they are not.  While they are also a great pick for beginners and amateurs, I’ll stick pick impala ten times over the sure-grips.

However, there are still a few important features you’ll love to know about the sure-grip stardust roller skates. With that being said, let’s get into today’s review!

Sure-Grip Stardust roller skates: what are they?

Let’s just assume that you’ve never heard of or seen a sure-grip roller before and you’re curious to know what they feel like. Usually, the first advice I would have given out is to just buy one and get the feel for you.

But, that’s a waste of money. You may not like them at the end of the day.

Sure-grips are considered to be one of the pioneers of roller skates. They’ve been in business since 1936. At first, the brand started off with producing skating wheels and in 1945, they began producing roller skates. Since then they’ve never failed in producing awesome roller skates.

The skates are famous for their shiny look. Almost all the Sure-grip roller skates I have come across had shiny surfaces. One of the reasons I said it looks almost like the impala holographic.

These roller stakes are also great for beginners. One of the girls I got to learn skating from said they were one of her favorite collections. According to her, they made her feel safe because of the comfortable grip on the ankle.  She went ahead to say that they made it easier for her as a beginner while practicing falling (Uhm, by the way falling, is one of the things you get to learn while mastering skating)

For you, it may feel differently and that’s fine too. You don’t have to feel pressured to get the Sure-grips or the impala just because I said they’re awesome- do you always.

The first time I tried on the Sure-grip roller skates, I noticed a lot of things I would have to change. Firstly, the bearing; I prefer using bearings that roll for a longer time and the sure grips I had on didn’t give me that. Of course, this is a very minor issue as bearing can always be changed to suit your taste, which I did.

The second thing I had changed was the wheel. I have a thing for smaller wheels, it may be different for you, but small wheels make skating enjoyable for me (or perhaps I have not mastered balance yet with bigger wheels, lol) I changed the wheels to a much smaller wheel than it came with.

Also, if you like toe-stops like me, you’ll be able to tell the difference between a good and a bad one. The toe-stops that came with the sure-grips were terrible. It didn’t last up to three weeks before wearing out. They were black in color and left marks on the ground as I skated: which isn’t nice and I could probably get into trouble for.

Sure-Grip Stardust features and specifications

Since I didn’t have many friends who made use of Sure-grips, it was kind of difficult knowing what to expect. So I did you guys the favor of adding this to the blog post to give you a firsthand experience of what to expect if you go ahead to purchase the sure-grips roller skates

1. Made with vinyl boots

This is one of the things I loved about the sure-grip star dust. The vinyl boots are super comfortable, especially if you’re a beginner that hasn’t worn or tried out many boots. However, from my experience, I realized that one of the bad things about it being a vinyl boot is the fact that they are prone to scratches.  Unlike the leather boots which can easily be cleaned and polished if you like, the vinyl boots will get scratches. For this reason, I had to order toe covers as well to avoid getting my boot destroyed.

As the boot gets older, it gives off a silver look which isn’t totally bad if you asked me.

2. Comes with a Rock Nylon plate

You’ll be pleased to know that the sure-grip stardust roller skates are really light weight. It comes with a really strong Nylon plate. Sometimes it’s shocking how lightweight they are but is always the last thing to get spoiled. It gives good support to the skater and also has an aluminum truck for added support.

3. Bearings: ABEC-3

Personally, I don’t like the bearings that come with the sure-grip stardust rollers because it doesn’t have strong resistance. It’s a great bearing for beginners though, especially if you’re just starting out skating for the first time. They’re also a great match with the sure-grips wheels.

The good thing about Sure-Grip Stardust Roller skates

When I got the sure-grip stardust as much as I hated some things about it, they’re also a handful of good stuff about which I’d love to share with you guys.

1. Adjustable toe-stops

I love toe-stops so much; one of the reasons why I enjoyed using the sure-grips stardust is because it has adjustable toe-stops. This way, I can adjust it according to the pace I want it for that day. The impala holographic doesn’t have adjustable toe-stops, it’s sad. However, it’s a great feature especially for beginners learning balance and certain moves. If you’re not a fan of toe-stops, you can have them removed as well.

2. The glitter

I don’t know about you, but the glitter is what caught my attention. I love the way it looks on my feet. The shimmering appearance it gives off is incredible. Usually, I thought stuff like this would have residue. In other words, I thought the shimmer would eventually fade off, but guys, it didn’t and that made me so happy. You can also get different colors of the skates if you want. You’ll also want to know that the wheels glitter too. However, they always comes with contrasting lace. The ones I got were black and they had green lace. They were gorgeous though.

3. The lacing

While most roller skates are pretty annoying because of how loose it gets after you skate for a while, the sure-grip stardust comes with a lacing design. This makes it more comfortable because it had a firm hold on your legs once you’ve tied them.

These are some of the reasons I enjoyed using the sure-grip star dust roller skates.

1. Great for outdoor and indoor

I liked the skates because it was good on both indoor and outdoor surfaces. One of the reason why it is suitable for both experience is because of it’s nice wheels which doesn’t wear out easily. With this skates you can easily roll on both hard and wood surfaces without any problems involved at the end of the day.

2. Good grip

I enjoyed using the sure-grip stardust roller skates because it had a good grip on my ankle. But, it wasn’t padded up to the end of my legs. While my feet and ankles were in a comfortable position, I couldn’t help but feel bare where the padding stopped.

The bad thing about the Sure-Grip Stardust roller skates

Here I’d give you guys a run down on some of the draw-backs of the sure-grip stardust roller skates.

No half size available

It’s a sad thing if you are a half size because it takes a lot of searching to find the perfect size for your leg. The sure-grip stardust is only available in full sizes. You can either go for a lower size or a tad bit higher size, whichever fits you perfectly.

Lacing is Time-draining

If it were a lacing competition, you’ll definitely come out last place. These babies take a lot of time to lace up. I agree that the laces provide sure grip on your leg, but it wouldn’t be that bad if it didn’t take so much time to lace them up.

Available for women only

Unless you don’t mind wearing women skates as a man, you’ll want to know that the sure-grip stardust roller skates is available just for women. You can really find any in men’s style and design. This is bad if you asked me.

Not so steady boot tongue

I know I’m not the only one that finds it supper annoying when your boot tongues won’t stay in place. This was one of the issues I experienced with the sure-grip stardust roller skates. I found it somewhat discomforting because if I fell by mistake I could injure myself badly. Sadly the tongues can’t be changed like most things in the sure-grip stardust roller skates.

Best Sure-Grip roller skates

Although this review is just for the sure-grip star dust, I thought I’d add a list of sure-grip roller skates I liked as well. This list goes well for both beginners and experts in the game.

If you’re going for the sure-grips after all, ensure that you give these babies a try as well.

  1. Sure-Grip Black Fame Roller Skate (Amazon Link)
  2. Sure-Grip Stardust Glitter Roller Skate (Amazon Link)
  3. Sure-Grip Purple Boardwalk Skates Outdoor (Amazon Link)
  4. Sure-Grip Boardwalk Outdoor Skates (Amazon Link)

Although the brand has been available for quite a long time, there aren’t many options to choose from. So far these are the best choices I could make for me and I hope you enjoy using them as well.

When it comes in comparison with the impala holographic roller skates, there’s just so much the impala has that the sure-grip stardust roller skates doesn’t come close to.  Don’t get me wrong though, the sure-grip stardust roller skates are incredible skates and can be comfortable. But, for me as an almost pro skater I’d say it’s just not the roller skates for me.

However, ensure that you go through the same steps I listed in the last article when picking out your own pair of the sure-grip star dust or the impala holographic roller skates to enable you get the best as well as your money’s worth.

Final words

I’m really glad I chose skating as a hobby during the pandemic; it has set my view of life on a whole new level. If you already skate, I’m sure you can relate to this feeling.

That being said, I’m urging you guys to try skating out. If you’ve been scared that you’d fall and injure yourself in the process, you will most definitely fall. But there are safety measures we take to avoid getting severe injuries while skating and you can follow them too.

Anyways, I hope I kept my promise of not giving a biased review of the sure-grip stardust roller skates and that you found this blog post helpful in one way or another.

Let me know if you settled for the sure-grip star dust or the impala holographic roller stakes.

Bye friends, until next time.
