Are Impala Skates Good for Beginners? [A simple explanation]

When I decided to take up skating as a hobby, I had this rush of excitement; I was excited about trying out something new, something challenging, and definitely interesting. In any case, my excitement was short-lived as it gradually turned into a state of indecision. I was at a crossroads at that point because I couldn’t quite figure out the perfect skates for myself.

My first challenge was to find the right skate for beginners. I tried quite a couple of skates before I found the right one- my Impala skates. If you are currently searching for a good skate for learning, as a beginner, I’d definitely recommend the Impala skates. In this blog, I’ll be giving you all my considerations on whether impala skates are good for beginners. Stay tuned!

In my experience, I have found impala skates to be excellent for beginners. I learned to skate indoors using the Lightspeed Impala skates. Mine are pink in color by the way. The gummy wheels, padded boots, and alloy plates that they possess make them the favorite of most beginners. In fact, that was why I chose them.

I truly appreciated the high ankle support when I bought these skates as a beginner.  They don’t go very fast which could be a shortcoming for some beginner skaters, but as a beginner they are great skates for getting started.  I’m a size 9, so I ordered the 9s and they were super snugged.  I would recommend me going a size bigger for more comfort.

Straight out of the box they were quiet.  They eventually started to make noise after 3 months of use.  I ran them through leaves, sand, and puddles so that impacted the skates.  But, depending on your skate preferences it may not be a bad idea to swap out the bearings.

What Kind of Skates is Good for Beginners?

In general, I have found that skates that fit accurately, have good toe stops, and aren’t broken seem to do well with beginners. Of course, you have to start small, and only with time will you hope to perform some “tricks”. The better you get the more probable it is that you will move up to something that can endure your degree of skating.

The delicate sticky wheels of the Impala skates offer a smoother ride and decrease the vibrations brought about by lopsided surfaces. It is also a good idea to go for skates with functional and optional heel brakes. You never know when these will come in handy.

I found my impala skates to be good for me because of the following reason:

Firstly, in terms of cost, they were cost-effective. Not too expensive; I got my Lightspeed impala skates for just $100. This can prove very useful if you are on a tight budget and still intend to take up skating as a hobby.

Secondly, the padding was a source of comfort because of the cushion it provides. The padded liner constantly provided support and comfort all through my learning period.

In addition, there are optional heel brakes located on the baseplates. These come with two alien wrenches which make them feasible for installation and usage. Of course, brakes are a very important part of the learning process for anyone who intends to skate.

The thing I love the most about Impalas, and which I believe makes it great for beginners is the delicate sticky wheels which offer a smoother ride and decrease the vibrations brought about by lopsided surfaces. This will also aid in achieving mastery of skating within a short timeframe.

What other Skates are Good for Beginners?

Although I consider the Impala Skate line to be the best for beginners, as a result of its well-padded exterior and sticky wheels; there are other alternatives that beginners could use for learning. These include:

  • Crazy Skates “Glam” skates: The tongues lack enough padding but that of the ankles and boots are good enough.
  • Moxi Skates: I have found these skates to be quite good for outdoor skating. They are also made of alloy plates, strong and well-padded
  • Sure-Grip Boardwalks: These are durable but a bit on the high side in terms of cost. They can also have not-so-good sizing.
  • XUDREZ PU skates: These are quite good for a tight budget, as they can be obtained for as little as $50. They come in various shapes and sizes, both for men and for women.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I’d say that Impala skates are pretty great for beginners; trust me, I’ve been there. If you are looking for something durable, comfortable beautiful, and inexpensive at the same time, then Impala is the right choice.

The amazing sticky wheels, coupled with the tight padding produce a great deal of comfort, support, and control which make impalas good for beginners.

So, head out there and get yourself a nice new pair of Impala skates! And yeah, you can thank me later.
